Smith: Coming home?
The football season still has a good two weeks to run but the rumours about who's coming and who's going are already flying about The Den, ranging once again from the sublime to the ridiculous.

As reported on Millwall Mad, nine players have already been told to pack their bags and leave town and it didn't take long for one of them - Tom Brighton - to land himself a new club. After an injury-plagued two years at Zampa Road, the Scottish striker is hoping he'll have better luck with St. Mirren.

The rest of them will be hoping to have similar luck in finding another employer but they might be the last to leave The Den. The club have circulated Lenny Pidgeley's name in the hope of getting a fee for him while veteran midfielder Dave Brammer is rumoured to be on his way to Stockport County after finding the commute from Oop North a bit too demanding. And today newspaper reports linked Paul Robinson with a move to Ipswich Town, although The Star suggested that it would be on a free. Not even the current board would be that stupid, would they? Er...

Looking on the positive side of things, The Lions have also been linked to a number of new players, including recently released Newcastle striker Peter Ramage and ex-Millwall goalkeeper Phil Smith. A goalkeeper seems to be top of Kenny Jackett's shopping list - well, it would have to be after he released two of The Lions four keepers and put another on the transfer list - and as well as Smith we've also been linked to Newcastle keeper Tim Krul, who could come to The Den on a year's loan.

Jay Simpson and Jem Karacan's names have also been mentioned but neither is likely to sign on a full-time basis unless something can be worked out with their respective clubs, although Reading's relegation may see Karacan stay at The Auto-Trader Stadium.

Which leaves us with the annual hunt for a stiker who can score goals. Two years ago we got Darren Byfield, this year we're not aiming our sights so high, with the Dagenham & Redbridge pair of Paul Benson and Ben Strevens linked with The Lions as well as Southend United's Charlie MacDonald but having offered new contracts to Neil Harris and Chris Zebroski it's likely we won't sign more than one.

Whatever happens, it won't end there. Where there's newspaper column inches to fill, there's a player rumoured to be coming to/leaving The Den.
