The Rumour Mill Rides Again!

May: Finally set to bow out?
I don't think we've been in this position before. Well, not for a while anyway. But come January 1st, a brave new world opens up for Millwall Football Club. One where we can compete for players by actually offfering money for them instead of a year supply of Ryman's staplers or a stay at a castle in some remote part of Scotland! Well, that's if the rumours are to be believed...

It'll also be the first time we've had a manager with experience at the helm instead of a promoted first team coach or Dave Tuttle, so surely we can expect a bit of savvy wheeling and deadling from Mr. Jackett? Or will we once again be left high and dry by empty promises from The Board? Only time will tell but things have already started moving on the rumour front.

Big news of the day can be found on the many messageboards - if that's not over doing it a bit - of Stockport County who seem convinced that we've already struck a deal worth around £100k for striker Adam Proudlock. The much-travelled centre forward has already notched eleven goals for County this season and could add some much needed fire power to The Lions frontline... But it could be a big ask and something of a gamble after dropping down the League following stints with Ipwich Town and Sheffield Wednesday.

As for the rest of Jackett's potential new signings, most of the rumours are naturally orbiting around the loan players currently on the books. Of these, the most likely to sign is Ahmet Brkovic, if only because of Luton Town's financial plight. The Hatters are likely to let him go on a free, if only to get him off of the books, but a nominal fee is more likely, unless someone else comes sniffing around.

Defender Marcus Bignot could also join on a permanent basis but like Brkovic age is against him and Jackett could opt to think long rather than short-term and go for someone else.

Neither Jay Simpson or Bryan Hodge are likely to sign permanent deals - unless we can con their parent clubs in letting them go for the right price - but extended loan deals shouldn't be ruled out, possibly until the end of th season.

Don't be surprised if we sign another goalkeeper either. Lenny Pidgely has failed to convince and Chris Day's, er, days at The Den look to be numbered. Preston Edwards is far from the finish article so another custodian may be brought in to bridge the gap. And if that happens, expect Day to either be released or allowed to go to someone else on a free.

Unlike previous years, Millwall fans won't have to worry about their favourite players exiting The Den - if only because half of them either haven't played this season or a simply too crap to be wanted by another club. Having said that, however, Ben May could depart if someone with more money than sense comes in and makes an offer for the player's services. May has been disinterested for some time and his comments while out on loan at Scunthorpe United suggest that he wants out. Another who could leave is fullback Danny Senda - one of the few crown jewels at the club. He wasn't happy at the start of the season but things may have changed since Jackett took over. But like many of the players brought in by Nigel Spackman, his deal runs out in the summer and the club could look to cash in rather than let him walk away for free.

Oooh, it's going to make for exciting viewing!
