The Son of Rumour Mill

Last updated : 27 September 2004 By The Blue Pimpernel

Phew! What a weekend its been and the rumours haven't stopped flying about just because everyone has decided to go back to work. There's been so much idle gossip and malicious whispers flying around The Den that we just couldn't help but publish another Rumour Mill.

First up with have the somewhat fanciful rumour that Gianluca Vialli is going to buy Millwall. No joking, the former Manager of Chelsea is set to pump an untold amount of millions of pounds - nay euros! - into the club and team up with drinking buddies Ray Wilkins and Dennis Wise once again. Well, he is if you believe what you read in the Sunday papers.

Iffy
Unfortunately, some people do believe what they read and the story has fuelled a certain activity on the stock market with shares changing hands at an unbelievable rate. Even more unbelievable is the accompanying rumour that Vialli's first act as Chairmen will be to sell Paul Ifill to make way for Gianfranco Zola...

Ifill's future has also been the subject of speculation with one poor deluded soul actually believing that Newcastle United were going to come in for him for a cool £4 million, which will be a far cry from the £400,000 that Sheffield United have said to have offered to secure the winger's services.

On a more positive note, some wag has suggested that we're about to offer Watford £600k plus Neil Harris for Danny Webber. Whether they bite remains to be seen...

Millwall are also still in the hunt for Canadian starlet Jaime Peters - no relation to Bob - but apparently it's a straight fight between us and, erm, Manchester United.

Stranger things have happened so who knows. If a miracle does occur, we'll let you know, until then, keep watching the skies!
