Donachie: Looking to the future
Having calmly dispatched runners-up elect Bristol City at the weekend, Millwall boss Willie Donachie is looking forward to next season with optimism - but at the same time, he's also thinking about what could've been.

The Lions' play-off hopes finally came to end with defeat away to Huddersfield Town, but Donachie feels that his side really let things slip with the 2-2 draw at home to Tranmere Rovers because they - and the fans - didn't believe the impossible was possible.

"I don't look back and think 'if only'", he told the club's official site. "But there are certain matches, like when we were 2-1 up against Tranmere and threw it away, where I think we had a real chance.

"I said about eight games ago that I thought we could still do it but I just sensed that everyone else - players, supporters and reporters - didn't believe it.

"They felt we had a chance but they didn't really believe."

However, the 1-0 victory over City has fuelled Donachie's hopes for next season, and the Millwall Manager believes he can lead The Lions to success.

"I'm confident we can hang on to this group of players, get three or four in and come back stronger next year," he said.

"Last year we had 19 new players and nobody knew each other but we've done a lot of hard work behind the scenes to get that togetherness.

"That's not a pop at Nigel (Spackman) it's just the way it was, but it won't be like that next season."
