Alas Smith a no go

Millwall boss Kenny Jackett will have to work fast if he wants to get rid of Ryan Smith before the close of the transfer window.

The former Arsenal youngster appears to have fallen foul of the Lions manager as he looks to build a side in his own image at The den and Jackett has made it pretty clear that Ryan doesn't feature in his immediate plans after signing Karl Moore on loan from Man City.

Jackett had hoped Dutch side NEC Nijmegen would take him off of his hands but Smith failed to impress during a three day trial and has since returned to the club.

"The technical staff are not convinced of the additional value of Ryan Smith compared to the players in the current squad," read a statement on the Dutch side's website . "Although the end of the transfer window is in sight, NEC only want to sign players who will add something to the options available."
