Despite having to spend Tuesday night in hospital, Millwall striker Gary Alexander is confident he will recover in time for Saturday's League One clash against Walsall at The Den.

The 29-year-old picked up a nasty whack just minutes before half-time and joined fellow forward Neil Harris in the facial injury department of The Lions treatment room but x-rays confirmed that he had not broken his jaw as first feared and he is hopeful of convincing manager Kenny Jackett that his is fit enough for action.

"Fortunately the X-rays showed no damage to my jaw," revealed Alexander. "But I've had seven stitches on the outside of my mouth and the same inside because my teeth went right through my bottom lip.

"I was back in hospital on Wednesday morning, and although it's a bit sore I'll hopefully be training on Thursday and desperate to play at the weekend. And even with the injury, I still look better than Neil Harris!"
