Berylson backs the boss

Millwall boss Kenny Jackett will have at least one thing to celebrate this Christmas - financial backing from his chairman when the transfer window opens in January.

There had been fears that the manager would only be able to buy if he sold first, but Chairman John G. Berylson made it clear this afternoon that Jackett will have money to spend.

Speaking after the PLC's AGM held at The Den this morning Berylson said: "No-one should be in any doubt that we are very ambitious to improve the team with the intention to build a squad capable of winning promotion and then keeping us in the Championship.

"We took our time to select a manager, and the period since Kenny Jackett's arrival has only reinforced my belief that we have got it right. Four wins from his first five games in charge clearly indicate that, particularly given the long injury list he still has.

"When some of those injured players come back they will be like new signings, but Kenny has my backing to go ahead and try to bring in the targets he has identified in January.

"Neither he nor I believe that having half your team made up of loan players is the way forward so we're looking for a solid group of players who want to play for Millwall and understand the demands of our fans. Our aim is to attract more of our supporters to come to games again on a regular basis."

So, that's Ronaldo and Beckham on their way to The Den then...
