The 33-year-old, who was expected to leave this summer, was told by a specialist that he will need the surgery in order to determine what the problem is.
"His knee problem has not settled at all," manager Kenny Jackett told the South London Press. "He is still having problems.
"If the surgeon finds something in there that is causing the problem, Dave could be back very quickly."
