Strikers Kevin Braniff and Mark Quigley were involved in tonights under-21 action, with both players starting their respective country's fixtures.

Braniff, who has figured just twice for The Lions this season, led Northern Ireland's attack from the start as they beat their Scottish counterparts 2-1 at The Oval in Belfast. The Ulstermen came from behind to win with strikes from Chris Brunt and substitute Sam Morrow.

Quigley, meanwhile, was handed his first start for the Republic of Ireland in Rio Maior as they lost 2-0 to Portugal and spurned a superb chance to equalise when he fired wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Tomorrow sees a Canadian line-up featuring Adrian Serioux and Josh Simpson take on Northern Ireland's seniors while club captain Kevin Muscat has joined up with the Socceroos in South Africa for their international clash.
