Tim Cahill hit a hattrick in Australia's 6-1 victory over Fiji in last night's Oceania Cup.

The Millwall midfielder netted in the 39th, 66th and 75th minutes to take his tally of international goals to five from three games - all scored with his head. Cahill, who was making only his second start for the Socceroos, was the star of the night as the Australians cemented their quest for a place in the 2006 World Cup Finals.

“For me, that’s Tim’s strength, making runs into the box,” said coach Frank Farina after the game.

“He’s a goal scoring midfielder as you can all see, but he makes great late runs and it’s very difficult for defenders to track that.

“He got three and was probably in three or four other really good positions as well.”
