Defender Matt Lawrence looks almost certain to captain Millwall in next week's FA Cup Final.

Shaggy, has he is affectionately known, skippered The Lions in the last three league games of the season, replacing striker Neil Harris. Lawrence takes over from Kevin Muscat, who misses the final through injury.

Wearing the captain's armband at the Millennium Stadium will mark the end of a turbulant season for the Millwall defender who had been shown the door under previous manager Mark McGhee.

Dropped and placed on the transfer list, Lawrence recaptured the form which saw him win Player of the Year in 2000-01 under Wise and has formed a solid partnership with Darren Ward in the heart of the Millwall defence.
