The Dees went ahead in the first half thanks to a close-range effort from Jan Zemlik but Willie Donachie's side equalised through the much-maligned Ben May in the second half, having already seen a decent effort struck off for offside.
In the end, it was Dundee who won the game when Zemlik stole in with two minutes left to secure victory.
The Lions played two different sides in each half as they went about improving their match-fitness for the forthcoming season while former Lion Rae made an appearance for the home side in the keenly fought contest.
