Donachie: Aiming to free up funds
The Den looks set to become a hive of activity when the transfer window opens in the New Year as boss Willie Donachie looks to strengthen his squad ahead of a possible relegation scrap.

The Lions manager has been told in no uncertain terms that he must free up some much needed funds if he wants to sign the players he's after in the January Sales and he has already made a start by releasing striker Kevin Braniff earlier this week.

Up to ten players could follow the former Irish Under-21 international out of the door before the window opens with winger Marvin Williams expected to be sold soon after.

"The sooner we get stronger characters in the squad the better,” Donachie told the South London Press. “We are going to try and help some of our existing players to find other clubs.

"The main goal is to get a team of strong, honest people.”

Donachie's aim may be boosted further with the news that the club have been actively seeking new investors following the departures of Peter De Savary and Theo Paphitis.

"We are looking for some new investment,” confirmed club chairman Peter De Savary. “There have been some talks going on and the outcome will have an impact on how aggressive we can be in the transfer window."
