The F.A. today announced that it will be launching an investigation into the violence that marred yesterday's clash between Leeds United and Millwall at Elland Road.

The already tense atmosphere over-boiled in the 86th-minute when former Leeds player Jody Morris equalised from the penalty spot. The Lions midfielder then decided to celebrate his goal by cupping his hand to his ear before running off on a lap-of-honour in response to the jeers he'd been receiving all afternoon.

West Yorkshire Police made 10 arrests after the game and riot police were called to quell fighting inside the stadium.

An FA spokesman said: "We are making inquiries and will speak to the police. "Some of the incidents appear to have occurred outside the ground and they would not fall under our jurisdiction."

Millwall boss Dennis Wise did not condemn Morris' antics after the game, instead prefering to highlight the positives of the performance.

"The Leeds fans had been giving Jody stick all afternoon. It's sad, but that's what people are like. It is always nice to put one over on your old team, especially with the stick that they were giving him.

"I was pleased it was Jody stepping up to take the penalty. He wanted to shut everyone up. If there is one person who I thought would score it, it was him."
