Spackman: Blames fans for his departure
Despite managing just two wins during his brief stay at The Den, former boss Nigel Spackman has a launched an amazing attack at Millwall's fanbase, blaming them for his sacking.

Speaking to the Southwark News, the former Sheffield United and Barnsley manager criticised the supporters for turning on him and the team - despite a poor run of results and The Lions' position in the Leage - and claimed that he still had the backing of the board right up until the moment he agreed to step down.

"It was fan power that got me the sack rather than the people in the boardroom," said Spackman. "When I started the job we had only eight players at the club and not a single goalkeeper.

"People thought we had the right to go straight back up but if you only start with four players, its going to take time.

"I worked hard to bring in the people and Willie (Donachie) now has the luxury of not needing to do that. You know it is going to be a long, hard job to rebuild and I wasn't given the time."

Although its true that Spackman did indeed bring in a wealth of new blood, very few of his signings actually proved their worth and a number have already left the club having failed to hold down a first team place.

And despite Spackman's claims, his successor was forced to rebuild his squad during the transfer window, bringing in Dave Brammer and striker Neil Harris, both of who are seen has being pivotal to The Lions' upturn in fortunes after Christmas.

'I don't regret taking the job," he continued. "But I regret getting the sack. Every club has its opinions and the opinions of fans on me was strong."

"Willie has taken it on and done extremely well and it looks good for next season."
