Harris feared for fellow Lions

Millwall striker Neil Harris has expressed concern over the events that marred last night's Carling Cup clash between The Lions and West Ham United last night and admitted that he feared for the safety of his teammates.

The veteran goalscorer has seen his fair share of crowd trouble down the years but admitted to Sky Sports that this was the worse he has seen and had it happened at The Den he feels certain that the media and authorities would have acted in a more aggressive manner than they have towards The Hammers.

It was extremely hostile and volatile," Harris said. "All my concern was for my team-mates. At one stage it wasn't very pleasant.

"We've had it at Millwall when fans come on to celebrate and everyone makes a big hoo-ha about it. I'm sure if it was our fans on the pitch people would be very keen to report that.

"Anything can happen when they are on the pitch but most of the time fans are on the pitch to celebrate a goal, not to attack players."

However, Harris admitted that apart from the pitch invasions and stoppages, he enjoyed the match.

"I've played in these games before and know what it is all about, big local derbies and red-hot atmospheres," he continued. "They are terrific games to play in and that is why you play football. It means so much to the supporters of both clubs but sometimes they get a little bit over-zealous.
