The 33-year-old former Jamaican international could be back in as little as five weeks after a scan on his injured knee revealed the problem was not as serious as first feared.
"We don't think it is going to keep me out for the rest of the season," Hayles told the South London Press.
"But we won't be able to tell for sure until I start trying to use it for long periods. I have had a bit of discomfort but apart from that it has not been too bad.
"Walking is okay but I cannot stand on it for too long."
