Having scored just once since joining in January, the 26-year-old no longer has a future at The Den after being told by manager Nigel Spackman that he was surplus to requirements and given a free transfer.
It was thought that the former Den Bosch striker would return home to Holland but will now travel to Easter Road to discuss a possible move.
"They know me very well, I understand they have followed me during my time at FC Den Bosch," Powel told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.
"I will travel to Scotland soon and will see if I get a good feeling with Hibernian.
"Personally, I don't know much about Scotland or Scottish football. However, it's clear that they are seriously interested."
