Igoe: Shocked by sacking
Steve Claridge's first and only signing for Millwall has admitted he was caught by surprise over the club's decision to fire the manager.

Sammy Igoe only signed for the club 15 days ago after being persuaded by his former teammate to sign for The Lions. But now the midfielder - who has impressed many with his early pre-season performances - admits he faces an uncertain future under new manager Colin Lee.

“I came in for treatment at about 9.15 and the physio asked me if I’d heard what had happened", Igoe told a Swindon newspaper. “I couldn’t believe it when he told me.

“I’ve been through some managers during my career but never one as quickly as this.

“Obviously I’m gutted for Steve because he’s a friend of mine.

“The lads are obviously talking about it but we don’t yet know exactly what happened.

“Steve actually apologised to me because he said that under him I’d have had every opportunity to play.

“Clearly he can’t say that will be the case with the new manager.

“I told him that he had nothing to apologise for. I should be thanking him because he gave me the chance to play at a higher level again.

“It’s back to square one in a sense now. We all have to try and impress the new manager I suppose.

“Things have been going quite well and I’ve been enjoying it so far.

“All this doesn’t leave us much time to prepare for the first game at Leeds.”
