Interest in Whitbread grows

Swansea City are the latest club to be linked with Millwall defender Zak Whitbread after his proposed move to Peterborough Unted fell through yesterday.

The Welsh side are believed to be in the process of putting together a bid of around £700,000 for Whitbread - a club record for The Swans - in order to land the player. And the South Wales Evening Post believe the club will be able to match the defender's wage demands after Peterborough United allegedly refused to break their wage structure and offered Whitbread less than he was on at The Den.

However, Swansea face competition from West Brom, Nottingham Forest and Doncaster Rovers, who are also said to be preparing offers for the American.
