Having failed to score all season, Millwall striker Gary Alexander picked the perfect moment to open his account and to send a bit of Christmas cheer around The Den.

The former Leyton Orient hitman showed why former boss Willie Donachie was so keen to bring him to The Den as he notched a hattrick as The Lions beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0.

And Donachie's successor couldn't hide his delight with Alexander after the game.

"Gary's not had much luck," said Jackett. "It's obvious that for every forward to be successful good service is vital.

"He could not complain about the service that he had and that was shown with the goals. It was a very, very pleasing result. I wanted a response after Walsall and I got it.

"We have a few players who are within touching distance of being fit and if we can keep the players healthy and maybe add a few more things will get better."
