Jackett sings Craigs praises

Craig: Praised by Jackett
When Saturday's team selection was first announced it was fair to say that there were one or two eyebrows raised around The Sixfields stadium. Defender Tony Craig has performed well at centre half when required but a move into the centre of midfield left many wondering just what on earth was going through manager Kenny Jackett's mind. After all, it's not as if we're short in that area of the park.

But having decided not to select Danny Spiller or Dave Brammer, both of whom are fit but out of favour, Jackett decided to drop Nadjim Abdou and play the left back in his place. A midfield without a creative talent was always going to struggle but one containing a defender was never going to threaten, as proved the case on Saturday. Millwall may have come away with a point but something is definitely wrong in the state of Denmark. Not that Jackett is bothered.

Instead of apologising to the many fans who travelled up to Northampton to watch the dross served up, The Lions boss decided to praise his own selection. He wasn't fooling anyone.

"We have lacked some competitiveness in midfield so far, leading me to play three in there which I don't want to do just now," said Jackett after the game. "I thought Tony would show strength and personality in that position, which he did, and I felt he had a good game.

"I was hoping he and Marc Laird would form a good partnership, so to lose Marc with a hamstring injury was a blow. But I thought Jimmy Abdou did well in there when he came on."

The game was crying out for Brammer or Spiller, instead we got three midfielders without a creative spark between them and a winger played at left-back. Millwall are back in the relegation zone and if we are honest, there is only one man to blame.

How long before we are searching for yet another manager?
