James endures miserable debut

David James received an uncomfortable welcome to Championship football as Bristol City slumped to a 3-0 opening-day defeat to newly-promoted Millwall at Ashton Gate. The England goalkeeper was beaten by Darren Ward and Danny Schofield either side of half-time before Paul Robinson put the Lions in dreamland on the hour mark. Ward struck after Kevin Lisbie's shot came back off a post and Schofield curled a right-foot shot into the bottom corner from the left side of the area. The game was put beyond City's reach when James Henry's inswinging corner was headed against the crossbar by Lisbie and Robinson reacted quickest to turn the ball home. Millwall's day was slightly tainted in the 64th minute when debutant Darren Carter received a second yellow card, and a subsequent red, for a foul on Albert Adomah.
