Former Lions Player of the Year Matt Lawrence has been told he can leave The Den after falling down the pecking order.

The 29-year-old right back joined the club just before the 2000 transfer deadline and helped the club to the Second Division Championship the following season.

However the signing of Aussie international Kevin Muscat and the emergence of youngster Alan Dunne has seen the player left on the sidelines and with his contract expiring next summer, he is seen as surplus to requirements.

Speaking to the South London Press, Lawrence said "If the right club comes along offering me first-team football I would have to take it because I have a mortgage to pay and family to feed.

"Maybe this is the beginning of the end for me here. I wish I could stay but perhaps I am not wanted."
