Former Cardiff City boss Lennie Lawrence has turned down the opportunity to manage Millwall in a dispute over wages, according to reports in today's Times and Daily Mail newspapers.

Lawrence, who left Ninian Park last season, was thought to be a strong candidate for the position after impressing chairman Jeff Burnige but both reports suggest that the manager was unhappy with the proposed salary of £70,000 a year.

However, it is also believed that Lawrence was upset by Burnige's public interest in George Burley early this week and has decided to walk away rather compete with the former Derby County manager for the position.
