Millwall's fractured pre-season continued last night with another defeat - this time at home to Championship outfit Southampton.

The Saints' Mario Licka scored the only goal of the game with a deflected effort just after the half-hour mark but the big talking point was the absence of striker Darren Byfield amid rumours of a tunnel bust-up with Richard Shaw during the club's tour of Scotland.

No explanation was given for the want-away-forward's failur to show last night but behind the scenes storied of discontent within the squad concerning the player seem to be gathering pace.

There was one bright spot to the evening's game, however, and that was the performance of debutant Preston Edwards in the Millwall goal during the closing stages of the contest.
