Byfield: Fading target
Millwall have seemingly ruled out a move for Gillingham striker Darren Byfield after press reports linked the player with an "imminent move" to The Den.

Lions boss Dave Tuttle has had a long-standing interest in the player and the club made an ill-fated attempt to sign the player during the transfer window. But with the player now suspended for four games, and with strikers Barry Hayles and Carl Asaba returning to fitness, the manager is likely to look elsewhere.

"Darren Byfield is suspended for four games so I don't think that's really practical," revealed club spokesman. "He could be really good at warming a bench, but we've got a few already here who can do that.

"We're still making enquiries about the possibility of bringing in some players on loan, but we've been linked with so many players now there can't be that many left."
