Lions set to miss out on Smith?

Millwall's chances of signing the highly-rated youngster Anthony Smith took a turn for the worse today after it was revealed that he and his management agency have travelled to Portugal with a view to joining Portimonense, who currently ply their trade in the Liga de Honra.

Smith, who was expected to travel up to Scotland for The Lions' pre-season tour of the Highlands as cover for Tony Craig, received the club's permission after it emerged that the Portuguese side were interesting in signing him on a permanent basis instead of merely on trial.

Should the move come off, it will be the fourth country Smith has played in after spells with RFC Liege in Belgium, Germany's Rot-Weiss Essen and a brief stay in Morecambe.
