Millwall Football Club have decided not to take up the offer of a pre-season tour to Australia, it was announced today.

The Lions had been invited to play four games at the end of June/beginning of July but after discussing the proposed itenery with the players - which included three internal flights and two 23-hour long haul flights, it was decided that the trip would disrupt pre-season training.

Speaking to the club's official site, Lions Chief Executive Ken Brown explained: "On the face of it, this did look an attractive proposition, but in reality it would not have provided the best possible preparation for the new season that our players will need. The logistics of the trip were far from ideal, and what we didn't want was the players coming back exhausted and ill-prepared.

"Fortunately, we have a number of options in terms of games much nearer to home, and we will be announcing our pre-season programme once our new manager has been appointed and he's had the chance to look at the prospective fixtures."
