McCammon wants out

According to reports in today's South London Press, Mark McCammon has handed in a transfer request, which has been accepted by the club.

The burly centre forward has fallen down the pecking order since his arrival at the tail-end of the 2002/03 season and despite featuring in last night's UEFA Cup tie against Ferencvaros, he is no longer considered a first choice.

McCammon's time at The Den has been plagued by injury. After a bright start, he fell awkwardly in the last game of the season shortly after joining which kept him out for almost a year. He came on as a substitute in the FA Cup Final but has found goals and appearances hard to come by.

He has made 20 appearances in the 18 months since his injury, five of them from the bench, and has failed to complete a full 90 minutes. Manager Dennis Wise understands the player's situation and has some sympathy.

"I have accepted his request to go on the transfer list," said Wisey. "He knows I am bringing strikers in and that the competition for places is tough. It is his choice and as long as he continues to give me 110 per cent on the pitch, I will have no problem with it."

McCammon added: "Dennis and Ray Wilkins know I am playing to the best of my ability. I was not asked to join the tour of Canada but when I came back into the team we won three games out of three. The club do not seem to want to get rid of me, but I feel I have not been treated with the respect my contribution has deserved. There has been interest from other clubs but nothing I can reveal at the moment."
