Millwall Football Club could be fined after being charged with failing to control their players in a mass brawl during the FA Cup semi-final against Sunderland at Old Trafford earlier this month.

The fracas, involving most of the players, came after Sunderland's Jason McAteer clashed with Millwall captain Kevin Muscat, leaving the Lions' skipper injured on the ground. Amazingly, despite McAteer appearigng to kick out at Muscat after he'd hit the floor, no charges have been brought against Sunderland but Millwall could be hit with a hefty fine.

McAteer was booked for the initial foul and later dismissed for a second yellow card five minutes from the end. Muscat was carried off by stretcher three minutes later after a reckless challenge by Sunderland's George McCartney and will be out for at least four months with a knee injury.

Millwall have 14 days to appeal over the charge.
