Millwall hit back

Following the publication of an inflammatory article in today's Sun newspaper, Millwall Football Club have issued the following statement:

Millwall FC were made aware on Monday evening that The Sun were going to publish an article in today's paper making serious allegations about the behaviour of a section of supporters during Saturday's match with Brighton.
We invited the paper and journalist to present any hard, factual evidence that they had in respect of these allegations. No evidence of any nature has been forthcoming.

The Club were asked to give an official reply, which is printed below:

This article is offensive, ill-informed and riddled with inaccuracies. We have been presented with no evidence whatsoever to substantiate the allegations made.

The issue of racism is a very serious one and Millwall Football Club has been widely recognised for being at the forefront of the movement to eradicate it from football.

Mr Enisuoh's prime duty, if he did indeed witness any form of racism, was to report it to club officials or the police, either personally or through the various methods highlighted prominently in the match programme, in order that any necessary action could be taken. This he clearly failed to do.

The Club notes with interest that The Sun declined to print the full text of our response.

Millwall FC is carefully considering its next course of action.
