Millwall in for Byrne?

Irish defender Des Byrne may be on his way to Zampa Road in a bid to resurrect his football career in this country.

The former Wimbeldon and Stockport County player returned to Ireland earlier this year after being released from his contract by Carlisle United and is currently with St. Patrick's. But the former youth international has made no secret of his desire to return to England and it is believed that he has been recommend to Dennis Wise by Jody Morris.

The 23-year-old's connections with Morris are well known following a high-profile court case in 2002 after he was arrested and charged alongside the Millwall midfielder and Chelsea defender John Terry.

The reformed bad boy - he was once sacked by Stockport County - had been linked with Leeds United during in the summer but a move failed to materialise. Should The Lions make a move for the St. Pat's star, it is thought he wouldn't link up with the club until the January transfer window, as the player himself explained.

“My agent has been sorting a few things out for me," said Byne. "And the plans are to get a run with Millwall in December.”
