Midfielder Jody Morris has ended speculation about his immediate future by signing a new one-year deal with The Lions, with an option to extend it by a further year.

Morris experienced a stop-start campagin last season after falling victim to a succession of injuries and his influence in midfield was sorely missed as Millwall dropped into League One.

"I'm pleased that we have got this sorted out," manager Nigel Spackman told the club's official site. "It was a difficult situation for everyone with Jody being out of contract, coupled with the terrible injury he had towards the end of the season.

"He wanted to commit himself to Millwall and we wanted him here. However, we will not be putting him under any pressure to rush back. We want him back when he is fully ready, and if that is by Christmas it will be a bonus.

"I know Jody from my days at Chelsea and I also know what a good player he is. Unfortunately last season he suffered a broken cheekbone and then the cruciate injury, but once he is back he will be a major influence for us, especially in this division."
