Ray Goddard, who kept goal for Millwall during the mid-Seventies, has died, aged just 58.

The former Lion was a key member of Gordon Jago's bright young squad that won promotion from the old Third Division in 1976 at the first attempt and made 80 appearances for the club during his spell at The Den.

Signed from Orient in November 1974, Goddard replaced legend Bryan King in the Millwall goal and was an almost ever-present until his departure to Wimbledon in 1978.

Indeed, Goddard was in goal on my first visit to The Den and all at Millwall Mad would like to offer our condolences to his family and friends.
