Jackett: Baffled by the ref
To say today's game at The Den between Millwall and Oldham was a little odd would be an understatement in anyone's book. What should have been a keenly fought game between two well-matched teams ended in farce after an incompetent display by referee Kevin Friend that say 18-year-old Jay Simpson harsly sent off for celebrating his equalising goal.

To rub salt into the wounds Oldham striker Lee Hughes didn't even enter the notebook, despite three celebrations that left a lot to be desired when it comes to inciting the opposition.

The game finished with both sides down to 10 men - with just as many picking up yellow cards - and left many fans scratching their heads as to why Oldham's Neil Eardley was dismissed, not to mention why The Latcis were awarded a penalty when not one of their players appealed for the foul.

Choosing his words carefully, boss Kenny Jackett was as diplomatic as can be after the final whislte.

"Whether it's the referee or the rules," he told the club's official site. "It has to be looked at if people are being sent off for celebrating. The emotion scoring a goal is a big thing, especially for someone who is just 18."

And he didn't stop there. Speaking Mark Crossley unpunished handball outside the area in the first half, Kenny said: "I spoke to Mark Crossley afterwards and he said he was two yards outside the box and handled, but what can you do?

"We played with passion and with spirit but we have to learn from the things we can do better."
