Savings and Loans for Preston

Preston Edwards looks set to the leave The Den on a temporary basis in order to gain some first team experience.

The highly-rated youngster has been elevated to second-choice goalkeeper at The Den behind David Forde but manager Kenny Jackett recognises the fact that the player has had very little first team experience, with only a handful of substitute appearances under his belt.

And the Millwall boss knows that the only way Edwards is going to be able to fulfill his potential is if he goes out on loan to another club.

"Getting Preston out on loan is an option that we must look at, for the benefit of both the football club and the player himself," he told the Southwark News. "I have spoken to Preston and he knows that the development of our own young players into the first team is something that I am very keen on and his time will come at Millwall.

"He might need some first team games now to progress. I have been very pleased with him in the reserve team and in training, but there must be a team looking to take a young goalkeeper for it to work."

Edwards had been set to replace fellow Lion Lenny Pidgeley at Woking last week but that deal fell through at the eleventh hour, leaving Jackett with little alternative but to find a suitable club for his goalkeeper in the short term.
