Shaw: Still chomping at the bit
Richard Shaw was something of a permanent fixture in Millwall's first team last season, playing 47 games in a campaign that saw him voted The Lions' Player of the Year. But injury and the form of Zak Whitbread has seen the former Crystal Palace and Coventry defender become something of a bit-part player.

However, while others may spit their dummies out or go running to the press, Shaw has taken his demotion to the sideliens in his stride - but that's not to say he doesn't want his place back.

"Like any other player, I would love to play week in, week out," he told the South London Press this week. "I know I could still do a job. I would love to be involved - but the club comes first now.

"I never expected to play 47 games last season. But I tore a groin muscle and was out for two months and Zak did brilliantly and built a great partnership with Robbo. You watch them and know they are maturing all the time.

"I have had my career and now it's their turn. That's football. I wouldn't mind playing once or twice more, though!"
