Spackman: On his way
Nigel Spackman appears to have been sacked as manager of Millwall Football Club.

According to rumours circulating on several fan messageboards, the former Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder was given his marching orders this afternoon by the board after The Lions fifth straight defeat at home to Northampton Town.

Assistant manager Willie Donachie has been placed in temporary charge for Tuesday's game against Brentford at The Den.

Spackman, who was appointed in the summer, made several sweeping changes at the club but results on the pitch failed to meet expectations, with Millwall currently just one place off the bottom. But the manager knew he was in trouble the moment the final whistle blew early yesterday evening.

"If you don't get results, your head is on the line," he said after the match.

"I would be lying if I said the fans calling for my head didn't affect me, but you get on with it. I understand why the fans are disgruntled.

"But a club that's had five managers in two years needs stability."

Make that six, Nigel.
