Spackman: Looking to strengthen squad
He may have only officially been in the job for three days, but new Millwall manager Nigel Spackman is already on the verge of making his first signings as boss.

The former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder has confirmed that he is in talks with a number of clubs with a view to strengthening his squad and hasn't ruled out taking players on loan if need be.

"I have a few irons in the fire already," Spackman told the South London Press. "I am just waiting to talk to their clubs and their agents and to the players themselves.

"I've already started on trying to bring the right players in, and with the backing of the board I'll be hoping to do that.

"Eight players left this month, so there is room to bring new faces in."

With Andy Marshall being one of those released and Colin Doyle opting to stay with Birmingham City, Spackman is on the look out for a new goalkeeper but he knows that he has to work within a certain price range.

"We have to be sensible about the budget," he continued. "Unfortunately, relegation means the purse strings have to be a bit tighter.

"We need to bring in players but everyone else will be chasing them."
