Spackman: Seeking to boost squad further
Millwall boss Nigel Spackman is still on the look-out for new players despite his recent spree of signing three new faces in the space of a week.

Having signed youngsters Zak Whitbread from Liverpool and Lenny Pidgeley from Chelsea in addition to striker Darren Byfield, Spackman now hopes to add a bit more experience to his fresh-face squad over the coming weeks with another midfielder at the top of his shopping list.

"We're getting there but it's taken a lot of hard work behind the scenes from everybody," the manager told the club's official website. "We've managed to get a very promising young goalkeeper and a very promising young centre back who plays the game in the right way.

"The Millwall fans took to Zak last season and he was very keen to come here, but it's taken a lot of negotiations behind the scenes to get the deal done.

"I think it would be unfair to everyone at Millwall if we just went out and bought 35-year-olds. You've got to have players for the future and that's what we're trying to build here. But we've got to get the balance right between the youngsters we're bringing in and a bit more experience too.

"Experienced players are very hard to find. But throughout the summer we're going to keep looking to bring some experienced players in to go with the younger ones who have got the ambition and the drive to succeed at this game."
