The midfielder, who was out of contract, was originally only offered a new deal by Millwall a week after the season ended. However, Stoke then came in with an offer of their own which all but sealed the deal for the youngster.
Millwall did improve their contract offer to the 20-year-old but it is felt that the club's indecision has cost them the services of a promising player who made over 50 appearances for The Lions.
No fee has yet been agreed with the matter set to be referred to a Football League Tribunal.
