Sweeney: Contract offer
Millwall Football Club have announced that midfielder Peter Sweeney will be offered a new contract in the summer once his current deal expires.

The Scottish Under-21 international had been fearing the worst last week when he revealed that he still hadn't received a new deal from the club but incoming chairman Jeff Burnige is keen to keep the winger at The Den.

"Peter very much wants to stay here," said Burnige. "A meeting has been arranged for the club to put a new contract offer to him."

Sweeney returned to training this morning after his spell in Austria with the Scotland Futures side and once again stressed that he did not want to leave.

"The last thing I want to do is leave this club", he revealed. "It's not as if I'm going to be out of a living because I know there are a few clubs watching me, and I know I can do a job; it's just that I want to stay here."

Burnige also confirmed that The Lions have a year's option on youngsters Ben May and Mark Phillips, whose contracts are also up at the end of the season.

However, there is still a worry that Millwall are taking too long in their efforts to secure the services of all three players. Should another club come in with a contract offer, they'd be free to leave with any fee decided by a tribunal
