Swindon Town have issued a statement, apologising to Millwall striker Neil Harris after defender Kevin Amankwaah made fun of the player's cancer fight.

The Lions' striker was reluctant to reveal what was actually said after the game but did remark that the comment was "probably the worst thing that's ever been said to me on a football field."

"Things are said on the field all the time," he continued. "But some should never be said. Ever."

Both players were booked following the altercation after they came together following Andy Frampton's sending off and Harris, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2001, had to be restrained by team-mates.

"Amankwaah made a comment about Neil having only one testicle," revealed an unnamed Lions player to The Sun. "It was totally out of order."

For their part, Swindon Town have acted swiftly to try and calm the situation down, with Amankwaah issuing an apology:

Swindon Town Football Club is aware of the verbal exchanges that are alleged to have taken place during Saturday's fixture with Millwall FC, with particular reference to the incident involving Kevin Amankwaah and Neil Harris and has investigated the matter further.

Kevin Amankwaah acknowledges that he may have reacted inappropriately to a verbal exchange between the two players and made what could be construed as an insensitive comment relating to the illness that Neil Harris successfully fought.

"Whilst I feel that I was the subject of some abusive comment. I regret any offence that my comment may have caused and extend an apology to Neil, a player and man for whom I have a high regard."

Amankwaah also revealed that he would be maing a donation to the Everyman Cancer Charity.
