de Savary: Blaming Tuttle
Millwall chairman Peter de Savary has hit back at criticism from both fans and players alike by laying the blame for the lack of new signings during the transfer window firmly at the feet of manager Dave Tuttle.

Goalkeeper Andy Marshall and defender Matt Lawrence have both moaned about the club's apparent lack of ambition in the press this week and a ground swell of criticism has appeared on the club's various unofficial messageboards but the new chairman insists its down to Tuttle's unrealistic targets.

"I have read emails from fans and comments from some of our players who seem to believe that we have broken promises in strengthening the squad," said de Savary.

"Everyone needs to appreciate that the company has very limited funds for player transfers at this time.

"During January we paid £125,000 for Berry Powel, in addition to signing Lloyd Dyer and bringing back Phil Ifil on loan.

"But there were very few other viable transfer proposals put to the board, including one deal for a striker which was totally unrealistic.

"One Premier League player we were considering last week would have cost us Premiership wages but we did not manage to close on the deal."
