Byfield: Attracting interest
Darren Byfield finally looks to be on his way after the South London Press revealed that two Championship clubs are battling it out for the striker's services.

The 30-year-old - who is refusing to play for the club again - has fallen out with both his teammates and manager Willie Donachie and made it clear that he wants a move away from The Den, but The Lions are in no hurry to cash in on the player and are ready to wait for the right offer if need be.

"We are weighing up what is best for the club." Financial Officer Andy Ambler told the SLP.

Bristol City have been linked with Byfield in the national press but are only willing to take him loan but manager Willie Donachie knows that a player of his quality - if questionable attitude - will attract more serious offers before the close of the transfer window as teams look to strengthen their squads.

"Darren is a recognised goalscorer," said Donachie. "So we are saying to clubs to make a genuine offer and we will see what happens. Other clubs are going to get involved right up to deadline day.

"While other clubs are interested, there is no need for us to send him out on loan. We expect someone to make a proper bid.

"It would be nice to have this issue settled."
