Lions chairman Theo Paphitis has criticised Ferencvaros for their handling of last night's UEFA Cup tie between the two clubs.

Four Millwall fans were treated for stab wounds after trouble between both sets of fans and The Lions black fans were subjected to racist abuse throughout the entire game.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Paphitis also revealed that fans inside the stadium, including club officials, came under attack from a hail of missiles during the game.

"Even as a kid I cannot remember it being as bad as that," said Paphitis. "We could not leave our seats during the game due to the extra police who had to be summoned to protect us.It was like going back into the dismal time of football that we all try to forget."

"A variety of things kept flying over," he added. "Anything from drink to coins and bits of food. When there are women and children there it is not on."

UEFA is waiting on a report from their official delegation at the match before deciding on whether or not to launch an investigation but it is thought that they will come down hard on the Hungarians if the reports of racial abuse are confirmed.

Striker Mark McCammon, who was a target for the abuse throughout the second half, threw his shirt on the floor in disgust after the final whistle in protest. However he was in more reflective mood this morning.

"I heard the chants but you have to block it out and rise above it and I think I did that. t did not affect me and I don't want the club to complain officially. It was a game of football and their ignorance is their problem."
