Ward deal falls through

Darren Ward's return to Millwall has been abandoned after The Lions failed to agree terms with not only his parent club - Wolverhampton Wanderers - but also the player and his agent.

The one-time MSC Player of the Year had been expected to complete a loan move back to The Den today but the deal was called off at the 11th hour, leaving manager Kenny Jackett without the defensive reinforcements he sorely needs.

"There are differences between the clubs," Jackett told the Southwark News. "There are a considerable amount of reasons it was not pulled off. We have made the inquiry and now we have to turn our attention elsewhere.

"We are trying to get the right players in. I am waiting on a few phone calls, to see which ones might happen."In these situations, a phone call or two can change things and make a player available and we have had plenty of 'maybes', but nothing that has crossed the line yet - though there are a couple of days before Saturday."
