Striker Noel Whelan has left Millwall after having his contract cancelled by mutual consent, the club have announced.

Whelan, who was given a one year deal in August, asked to be released from his contract for family reasons.

Speaking to the club's official site, the former Middlesbrough frontman said: "I would like to thank Dennis Wise and Theo for their support during what has been a difficult time, and also my team mates at the club.
I would like to wish them all every success for the rest of the season."
