Whitbread placed on transfer list

Millwall have today placed Zak Whitbread on the transfer list after the defending turned down a new deal following The Lions failure to go up last season.

Whitbread, who has been a target for the likes of Cardiff City, Blackburn Rovers and Belgian outfit Genk over the summer, has just a year left on his contract and is entitled to walk away on a free at the end of it so the club have decided to try and sell the player.

"If the club wants to put him on the transfer list, that is their prerogative," his agent Kevin Moran told the South London Press.

"The club know he wants to play in the Championship. He is very disappointed that is not possible with Millwall this season after May's defeat in the play-offs - because that was what he really wanted. He thinks he is more than capable of playing at a higher level. "
